Go to any of the local communities in Bristol Bay and see the No Pebble stickers and flags stuck on everything from boats to cars to bikes to buildings to airplanes. Listen to the determination people have when they talk of the way their family lives off of the land and how they don't want a multi-national corporation coming in to extract their resources. Let people tell you about fishing, and get that look in their eye, as they get excited just thinking about the upcoming season. Be there in May and see the energy gear up as locals get their boats ready for the upcoming season. Be there for caribou or moose season and see people hunting and then sharing the meat with their families. Of course, there are a few who do want the economic benefits of a gold mine. But there are the few and far between. When someone tells you that they are for the mine, usually the room gets quiet, and the subject is changed. Because for the most part the people of Bristol Bay do not want this mine. And if you would like a figure to go with that--some surveys say as many as 80-90% of the people of Bristol Bay do not want the Pebble Mine.
