Stop Pebble Mine

Stop Pebble Mine is a group of individuals that have a stake in the Bristol Bay Region that want to preserve the pristine beauty and vast wilderness where the proposed Pebble Mine is to be placed.

Pebble Mine location
The proposed Pebble Mine will be located on state of Alaska lands, not lands owned by Bristol Bay Native Corporation.

The profits from the development of the mine will not directly benefit Alaska Native shareholders from the region.

The profits from the development of the mine will not profit Native Corporations in a way that profits from the development of Red Dog mine are profiting NANA Regional Corporation and other Alaska Native corporations through 7i profit sharing.

The only benefits to Alaska Native shareholders statewide will be potiential jobs that will be created. Not like the millions of dollars will be shared by Red Dog Mine and the potential Donlin Creek mine in the Calista region.

The tax rate for mining in Alaska is so low that there will be little benefit to residents of Alaska.

Jobs is the main selling point of the mine development. I can tell you I don't plan on quiting my job to take a mine job. There are many good jobs on the slope. How many of those are held by people living in Barrow?

Drift - Commerical Fishermen - Bristol Bay. Resident Nushagak Drainage Shareholder - Bristol Bay Native Corporation, Choggiung Limited, village corporation of Dillingham Ak.
Pebble is the first of many to come. There is The Sleitat Mountain tin deposit which is considered one of the best known undeveloped tin prospects in North America, along with Tungsten and Silver and is located between the Nushagak and Mulchatna rivers. Shotgun Hills - 1 gold Deposits and 2 multi mineral Deposits, currently being sampled. Kemuk Mountians Iron and parts per billion Platinum deposit. The Bristol Bay Native Corporation has claims that are being sampled along with several more areas in the Nushagak and Kvichak drainages. Muklung Hills - Has a hugh Areo-Magnetic signature that claims already been staked and has yet to be sampled. As stated by Greg Beischer, the Geologist for the Bristol Bay Native Corporation at Choggiung Limited 2006 Annual meeting, there are potential 20 more Mines in the Bristol Bay region. This is what everybody opposes, turning our region into one big mining District. Until the last Salmon has returned home we must utilize the renewable resources to create sustainable jobs if we are going to turn this economy around and put people to work. INDUSTRIAL MINING IS NOT THE ANSWER TO SOLVING OUR PROBLEMS IN THE REGION. STOP "THE NUSHAGAK MINING DISTRICT" William A. Johnson eagle_ii@hotmail.com

Mother, Grandmother and a subsistence user!
We have to speak in one loud voice "Stop this madness before it is too late!!" We need to unite with everybody who opposes the mine and not just Pebble Mine but this whole area as a Mining District!! We need involvement from everybody that uses the renewable resources and not to just be depending on our Council members and Coporations alone to fight the fight that should also involve them! More action and letters written, more power to our opposition to the Pebble Mine and this area as a Mining District!

Lived off the land and river on the Nushagak, in Ekwok. Also, I was a commercial fisherwoman in the Bristol Bay. Many of my family members still commercial fish and subsist off the land and water.
My whole family grew up this way and I could not imagine life without our subsistence foods. We learned from our elders and I want my grandkids to be raised up the same way. I know that I live in the urban area now, but what I taught my kids; they will never forget. And someday we will go back. I still have a lot of family in this area, and hope they know the consequences if the mine goes through. Ask people or find out. There are many ways to find out. Areas that have had open-pit mines are now polluted and people cannot even drink the water. I know a lot of people are employed by the mining company in the area, but this company will take what they want and leave the area, just like many open-pit mines in the lower 48. Our land and waters will be ruined. I would and could not imagine. So, I would recommend that people oppose the Pebble Mine in Bristol Bay.

It is no longer acceptable to extract natural resources for the benefit of a few in locations that are priceless. The entire world knows better

Please stop the Pebble Mine and learn from the past mistakes made in mining. It can never be restored to it's original state and there is always more degredation then expected.

This is a disgrace.

We need metal ore mining; we all use metals in myriad forms everyday. However, this particular resource extraction project has a limited lifespan, uses techniques that are known to be environmentally toxic, and is a potential threat to existing economically and culturally vital, long-term sustainable resources - the Bristol Bay commercial salmon industry, subsistance fisheries, and sportfishing tourism. When the choice lies between short term gain and long-term sustainability of local economies and natural resources, we must choose in favor of sustainability. Period. This is the wrong project in the wrong location.

Gold runs out, so do the jobs that go with it. Salmon has provided a lielihood for Alaskans for thousands of years. No gold is worth risking that

Have fished and enjoyed the beauty of Bristol Bay/Iliamna areas
Stop the pebble mine please!! This area cannot be mined. It is too valuable for its wildlife, beauty and fishery. It will be ruined forever if it is mined. The salmon fishery is one of the last natural wonders of the world and we don't want to be the ones who ruin it for all future generations.
